Yesterday I wrote a script for my second Menus and Venues package. I also called a lead and set up and interview for Tuesday at 2:30pm. Today I met with her from 2:30pm to 3:40pm and filmed her interview. Then I got shots of various downtown spots and locations. Then, later in the evening I captured footage (it was not cooperating again!) and finalized the segment. It is up on Youtube now. Total hours this week: 5 hours

Second Segment is now complete!
Sunday night I wrote a news script surrounding the recent purchase of the Lake Hollingsworth apartments. Then on Monday I shot footage of the exterior of the apartments and shot around campus. I also called Bill Langston and set up an interview with him. Then at night I went to the Sigma Chi Fraternity's Sigmaritaville fall rush event to get a few interviews with students. This morning I filmed my closing and Bill Langston's interview. After work, I finally had time to capture my footage and begin editing. Total hours this week: 6 hours

Can someone say Technical difficulties?
Yesterday I arrived at the studio around10:30am to help re-shoot Monday's show. We got the microphones to work but the flash drive containing the teleprompter was missing. In Broadcast it is a great practice to "roll with with punches" so we loaded the script onto cueprompter.com and held it above the real teleprompter. Austen was then able to still read the announcements without it looking too obvious what we had done. Considering our obstacles, it turned out ok. Then, as we began to capture the footage, the tape deck wasn't responding. We switched everything onto the other computer and yet again we couldn't get it to cooperate. It wouldn't capture. I had to go to class at noon so I left around 11:50am. I got back with Austen at 4:45 to check up and see how the show was going. The show was practically done. He just wanted to play around with the opening sequence and see what else we could do to spice it up. I left at 5:15pm. Total hours for today: 1 hr. 50 min

First Episode of Menus and Venues is completed!
This morning I woke up and immediately started editing the segment. I worked on it from 9:30am to 11:30am. I had to take a break from it and go to my News Reporting class, which started at 11:50am. Once I got back home I continued to edit the package. I worked on it from 2:30pm to 5pm. I then posted it up on Youtube and Facebook. I also put it on a portable USB and brought it to Austen so that he could upload it in the studio for the news show airing tomorrow. Although the package was difficult to produce and I am my worst critic, I am glad that I finished it. I feel a great sense of accomplishment. I am hoping with each segment I get better and more professional. I want to walk away learning something new each time. Total hours for today: 4.5
Check it out. Hope you enjoy.

First reporting package in the works
Today, I met with Kris Eichen, the manager of Burger 21. I interviewed him and shot b-roll footage for my upcoming news segment. I also interviewed customers and sampled the delicious food and milkshakes. Yummy! I was there from 2-5 PM.
Later on in the day, I went to capture my footage and ran into some technical difficulties. My footage would not capture onto the computer!!! Grrrr.... I went online to look for troubleshoot options and suggestions. After several attempts, the footage was finally captured but then another problem occurred. The audio did not match the footage! Grrrr.... The only solution that would seem to work is slowly capturing each piece of footage individually. After finally capturing and uploading all of the necessary footage, I went to record my voiceovers. After five attempts, this task was finally completed. The biggest problem I ran into was static audio bursts while recording and playing back my voiceover attempts. I have since successfully recorded my voiceovers and will assemble the finished product tomorrow before turning it in to Austen tomorrow evening. Overall, I worked a total of six hours today.
Good night world, see you on the flipside

This week I went to the studio to meet with Austen and to discuss our new Weekly show. We threw in some awesome ideas and suggestions. I decided to do weekly segments titled "Menus and Venues". Through out the semester I will be traveling to different "hot spot" locations around town that I feel college students would enjoy. I get to go behind the scenes of some of the best businesses. My first segment, airing Wednesday is setting the spotlight on Burger21. I finalized my script on Wednesday and I have already made arrangements with the manager of the restaurant. I am scheduled to interview and shoot footage this monday afternoon. This week I have 2 hours completed.
